Brian Frus is a California State registered Civil Engineer and licensed engineering (Class A) contractor. With a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, his design, construction, planning and environmental experience spans over 25 years on a range of projects which has culminated with specializations in solar photovoltaic systems, energy conservation strategies and environmental mitigation and planning.
Mr. Frus has worked on the development of commercial and utility-scale solar projects throughout the continental US, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. He has performed analysis, system optimization and sizing, energy yield modeling, diagnosis of operating systems, conceptual design, project planning, site evaluation, and construction feasibility while providing technical support to sales developers, marketing staff and financial analysts. Mr. Frus has produced application tools to compare feed-in tariffs (FITs) offered by major utility companies and to facilitate cost estimation of solar PV projects. He has worked in a structured finance environment, providing pro forma support leading to power purchase agreement (PPA) pricing for megawatt-scale project pipelines.
Mr. Frus was also central to adapting a line of solar PV mounting hardware for the US market. Mr. Frus acted as liaison to European headquarters to compile drawings, methods and specifications which he then assimilated, modified and refined, creating individual product components, prototypes and complete integrated systems using his hands-on knowledge of the US PV industry. This experience led to an understanding of the issues driving product market appeal while adhering to structural engineering review processes, code issues, manufacturing methods and specifications and to knowledge of aluminum extrusion, steel fabrication, hardware supply, and reconciling ASTM, ANSI, DIN and ISO standards for design, manufacture and procurement.
Mr. Frus began his experience in the solar industry though his commitment to renewable energy and the environment leading him to found and operate a design-build solar PV and energy conservation services company in California which served public agencies, business owners and commercial developers.
Mr. Frus developed his planning, design and construction experience on private sector and public works projects that include landfill cell modules, slope failure analysis and repair, erosion control, facility decommissioning and environmental remediation and mitigation; supervision of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, shoring, foundation, trenching, excavation and underground utilities; operations in biologically sensitive environments and coordination of efforts at government, public education, petroleum, hazardous, industrial, airport and agricultural facilities. His commitment to global issues led him to serve in the US Peace Corps disseminating appropriate technology to facilitate micro-enterprise development and reduction of rural energy consumption.
